What a pleasant
surpise it was to stumble across this stealth site in Peterborough.
It was my second time ever in downtown Peterborough, and the first time
was years ago (before I started documenting cell sites). I have always
wondered where the town hid their sites, and I can now say I found two
of them! I was here for the day with the kids and happend to drive up Main Street on the way to the town's playground and I noticed this odd structure on the top of the building. So, on the way back from the playground, I stopped and took some photos and confirmed the site. No, not just one wireless carrier is here, but two! The location itself is at 76 Main Street in a two apartment building. The first photo shows a view of it from Main Street looking South East (almost towards Pac Monadnock). This site provides great coverage for the downtown area and Rt 101 near downtown, but to the North or West, it really does not provide much distance coverage - only coverage to the immediate neighborhoods due to it being at about ground level for those directions. 2nd photo shows the tower from the west side parking lot. 3rd, 4th, and 5th photos show the back side of the building where you can see the cables running from the basement up along the side of the building to the base of the tower at the roofline. If you look closely, you can see a GPS antenna at the base of the tower structure. Photos 6 and 7 show the power meters. You can see the US Cellular and Cingular names on two of the many power meters. |
US Cellular Cingular |
Also noteworthy are town Planning Board minutes from November 2004 which approved a 120-foot monopole cell tower to be located at the Monadnock Country Club on High Street.
Pac Monadnock and Temple Mountain
Temple Mountain has a monopole cell
tower owned by US Cellular.
Cingular is said to also exist co-located on this
tower and the town of Temple approved Cingular's addition in September 2004.
No photos of this site are availble at this time.

Located on top of Pac Monadnock Mountain in Peterborough NH is are these communications towers. This site and a great vista can be seen from Miller State Park if you climb to the top. On November 23, 2003, I made the trek up there with my kids and we shot some good photos (as you can see below!). Field Tests from years ago showed that US Cellular is definitely up here. Verizon also has great service in this area, so it may be safe to presume they are present as well.

Shot of two of the communications towers. The one
in the foreground seems to be terrestrial phone communications, plus
there's a bunch of other stuff on there. |

The cellular base station equipment (BTS). I have NO IDEA who this carrier is, but the BTS is so very small. It only has two sectors (aiming south and west). Parris Wood writes: Probably for a PCS carrier. The cabinets are way to new looking to
be a cellular repeater. It could also be wireless data. |

You can see the two sectorized array panels for

We sited a new monopole that appears to be in Lyndeboro

Nice shot looking south. |
A shot of the temple Mtn. US Cellular tower array. If you look behind the forground structure, you can make it out but it's hard to see. The bottom photo shows it through the tree branches. |
