Nashua Exit 5 Monopole Picture 1

At Route 3 Exit 5 (Route 111) in Nashua is this monopole which has been here for years. One of the first monopoles in Nashua during the buildout of the early to mid 1990's. It currently houses 5 carriers:

U.S. Cellular, Nextel, Sprint PCS, Cingular (AT&T), and Verizon Wireless.

Updated August 2006. Verizon Wireless has added another set of antenna panels for their PCS "C" Block EV-DO rollout just below the first tier (these photos do NOT show this new panel antenna array).

I don't know who's microwave dish is present up near the top, but most likely it's an MTSO backhaul repeater link for one of the carriers on this monopole.

This is a shot of the base. The building on the left is for Nextel, the one on the right is for Verizon Wireless, and there is one behind this building, which is not shown in the picture, which is for U.S. Cellular.

All of the wires for the antennas are hidden inside the monopole with the exception of one carrier, Verizon, which has theirs on the outside. If you look you can see the wires running up the left most side.

Also, you can see the detuning skirt used by this monopole due to it's proximity to the AM radio station tower located just a few hundred yards to the West.

Click here for detailed information on how and why detuning is necessary near AM broadcast towers.

Cingular's BTS. You can see the old rack to the right supporting TDMA. Between the BTS's is a wire harness where they multiplex the coax to use the same physical antennas for both GSM and TDMA simultaneously. A close up of this mux can be found in the next 2 following pictures.

Nextel, Telecorp (Cingular), Bell Atlantic (Verizon Wireless), EMPTY, Sprint PCS, and the last one on the far right is not labeled, but must be U.S. Cellular.
