Approx. Latitude: 42.76365 STEALTH FLAG POLE Located on the Nashua side of the Merrimack River along Rt 111 is this tall flagpole. Truly a stealth cell tower. Not 100% sure on who's there, but from driving by and looking at the BTS equipment bays, the hunch is that it's Cingular (formerly AT&T Wireless). |

Route 3 at Exit 6 (Broad Street), across Rt. from the Nashua Mall. This tower was constructed sometime in the 1999 timeframe and originally hosted OmniPoint (a.k.a VoiceStream/T-Mobile). The top most array is T-Mobile and it's in a quad faced alignment (four array sides, with the Southern, Western, and Northern faces in use). The 2nd and third tiers are probably both PCS carriers (Cingular and Unicel). Sometime in late 2004, a strange looking antenna was added between the top PCS array platform and the 2nd teir. I have no idea what this is for. Anyone know? The 2nd thru 4th photos show this new addition. Parris Wood's input: Triton PCS has a monopole using that type of platform. More than likely the antenna are angled to form a triangle. Four sides would be highly unlikely. Also I don't know of any PCS carriers who use four antenna per face. Maybe three (classic Cingular/high traffic VoiceStream or PrimeCo sites), most commonly two and more recently one antenna per face. |

Approx Latitude: 42.74333, Route 3 at Exit 5 (Rt 111) This tower was constructed sometime in the middle to late 1990's. Originally owned by US Cellular, it now hosts 5 carriers, including Verizon Wireless. Both pictures are of the same monopole. The bottom picture was taken with the monopole in the foreground and, yes, those are a AM radio station broadcast tower in the background a ways away (see detailed pictures for a closeup of the detuning skirt used by this monopole as well as a link to how and why detuning is necessary) |

Approx Latitude: 42.74125 Visible from Route 3 in the "S" turns near south Nashua, on the Rivier College Campus at 39 orchard Ave. are these two large towers. The larger tower has been in existence since the mid 1990's. The smaller tower (to the right) was constructed later. HELP NEEDED IDENTIFYING WHICH ANTENNAS ARE FOR WHICH CARRIERS Input from Parris Wood regarding picture #2 in this series: I don't know about the top but the

Approx Latitude: 42.70841 UPDATED 02/07/05 Located on Spit Brook Road heading East just off Rt 3, in the same building complex as Sanders are THREE antenna arrays on top of the building. One is T-Mobile another is Sprint PCS. Added in late 2004 was Nextel. These arrays serve the northern part of Daniel Webster Hwy as well as west of Rt 3 and Exit 1 (like the Sheraton Tara Hotel and beyond). Only two carriers are present in the top shot. The Nextel array is present in the 2nd photo. Click the photos to enlarge. If the photo does not enlarge, please see the Photo Gallery to view it. |

Also in Trafalgar Square on top of the big glass office building (next to the Crown Plaza Hotel) at 20 Trafalgar, are two arrays, one white and the other black. You'd figure they would color coordinate the both of them to be less noticeable?!? The white array has been there for a number of years, the black ones were added just a few years back. |

WELL DISGUISED Also in Trafalgar Square, mounted on the sides of the Crown Plaza Hotel is this highly-directionalized array. Arrays are mounted facing: Southwest (the second picture is of that array), north, and southeast (not pictured). This array has been here for over 8 years. They did a good job making this one as obscured as possible. Input from Parris Wood, he states: Looks like Cellular. Antenna are too

Located just west of Rt 111 in downtown Nashua, at the Sullivan Terrace South Apartments on Tyler Place is this array mounted just below the roof line. Input from Rick P of NH on August 31, 2006 Input from Parris Wood: Downtown Nashua pic #2. Looks like Nextel.
Alltel and Nextel use those antenna where I live. They are made by a company
called Decibel.. Indeed in the first picture you can see the equipment
shelter to the left. Its GPS antenna would seem to indicate a CDMA or
iDEN carrier. |

Located at One Indian Head Plaza on the sides of the roof line is this array which has been there for as long as I can remember (very early 1990's). Probably a PCS carrier. These shots don't do the antennas any justice. The 2nd shot is more of a close up but is too blurry. Sorry! |
Some PCS Carrier Probably T-Mobile ? |

Located adjacent to the ClockTower apartments, the Nashua Manufacturing Company building hosts a couple or arrays of different types. It's hard to tell if there is more than just 2 carriers here as the antenna types are different on each face/rooftop of the building. The first two pictures where taken from the Pine Street side (west) of the Nashua Mfg Building (which also has a sign on it for Storage USA Self Storage). I believe the white antennas are U.S. Cellular. The 3 antennas which are pained to match the color variations of the building, are probably for a PCS carrier. I like the color tones! If you look at the 2nd picture closely, you can see the cable wire type that is run to these antennas. It looks quite thin and flimsy.
The third and fourth pictures are of the North most side of the building, taken from the Clocktower apartment parking lot. You can see the rooftop array (again, probably U.S. Cellular, as a field test mode years ago indicated to me), and a PCS antenna array (4 of them, implying anti-multipathing, like for Cingular). There are also some other antennas on top of the building that are probably not wireless phone carriers. Most likely they are for some commercial purpose, but the interesting thing is that there are three in a row lined up in parallel on the buildings roof line edge. Parris Wood writes: The omnidirectional antenna would appear to be a paging
installation (notice the channel master dish on the left for receiving
pages from a satellite). The GPS antenna on the omnidirectional antenna
is for the paging

STADIUM LIGHTS Mounted on the light poles for Nashua's Holman Stadium are two PCS arrays, one on each pole. These are relatively new (1999 and later) after the city of Nashua remodeled Holman Stadium. You don't notice them unless you looking for them, but once you see them you cant miss 'em. The lights for the stadium are below each antenna array. The top two pictures are of one array on the north most pole. It has three 120 degree separated sides like most normal cell antenna arrays. The bottom two pictures show the second array on the south most pole (closest to Amherst Street). This array is only two sided, with the south east most face absent. This is the face that is directed towards downtown Nashua. It's a good example of how some PCS carriers cut corners for best RF saturation.
The T-Mobile base shelter has an FCC ASR registration number on the door of 1060731. |
My guess:
T-Mobile Cingular Both of these have been confirmed as being accurate. T-Mobile is the 2 sector array (3rd and 4th photos), Cingular is the 3 sector array (1st and 2nd photo)

Located on the roof top of St. Joseph's hospital halfway between Rt 3 and downtown Nashua on Kinsley Street (Exit 5, Rt 111) is this T-Mobile antenna array. This array received an upgrade to new antennas (in mid 2004) from the old style they used to have. Field tests are 100% conclusive that this array is for T-Mobile. Even in the basement of St Joes, years ago, T-Mobile (then Omnipoint) phones still worked while all other carriers did not. |
