Built back in the late 80's, this tower
has been a old monument in the eyes of Acton townspeople. Located close
to the Rt 2 and Rt 27 interchange, this structure houses just about
every wireless carrier there is. This photo, taken on April 20th, 2003,
now shows a new monopole immediately to the left of the tower for future
growth.
As of early August 2003, the new monopole
still does not have any wireless providers on it (yet).

Located just southwest of the intersection of Rt 225
and Rt 27 in Acton (behind 976 Main Street - Methods Machine Tools,
Inc) on the Westford town line is this big monopole. I stumbled across
it in my travels by using the Field Test Mode of my VZW Motorola v60c
phone (see the My Phone Stuff page for more info).
This massive monopole is relatively new (don't know
exactly when), and houses 6 carriers. I may be off on a few of the
carriers, so if you know, please let me know!

Attleboro and North Attleboro has increased coverage and
capacity along Route 1 to the intersection with 295 with a new Verizon cell

Located on top of Emerson Hospital are these cellular
carrier antennas. I counted 5 providers here, and unfortunately, the
other pictures of the remaining antennas did not come out. I
In this shot there are three antenna arrays. The obvious
ones on the short poles on the right side of the picture, and then
there are two tube like poles, one in the foreground and another behind
it.
These tube-like poles house a small 120-degree array
tightly packed, and are PCS carriers.
The omni antenna on the left is not a wireless provider,
but probably a pager or the hospital emergency services antenna (fire
/ rescue for ambulances, etc.)
A future trip to this site will produce more pictures.

Located just west on Route 117 of the
Concord Road / Rt 117 intersection is this tower. Overlooking much of
the Nashawtuck Country Club vista, this tower was erected in the middle
to late 1990's.
About a mile or so further west of this
tower is a new monopole located at a new apartment complex. The monopole
contains no antenna arrays as of 4/20/03, but it's altitude and placement
suggests that any carriers will be of the PCS type.
Both pictures are of the same tower,
one taken from the east (from the Rt 117 Concord Rd intersection), and
the other from the south (by the swampland on Concord Rd just south
of the end of the country club golf course).

The tower further west, by the junction
with Rt. 62 (just west of Emerson Hosp. and East of the Rotary) is a
Sprint PCS tower, and it's been active for a number of years. I know
that the
tower was listed on sprintsitesusa.com as being available for other
carriers to lease space on.
Old News: The citizens of Concord are
fighting one of the cell companies who want to bring this site on line
due to a zoning statute that limits the placement of cell towers within
1000' of a residence. The residence in this question being the Concord
Greene condominium complex on Main St. and Baker Ave.
Sprint PCS
. At the Mobile station at Crosby's Corner on Rte. 2 and Lexington Rd in
Concord they put in a flag pole which is really a cell tower at the top with
a covering over the elements. Cingular is the carrier (thanks to Eric H for
this info!).
The new cell tower at the Mobil Station in Crosby's Corner is an ATTWS tower,
which replaced an earlier repeater antenna array on top of the awning over
the pumps. There's space on the tower for two other carriers, but I didn't
see any other electric meters the last time I was out there. For a while ATTWS
had a temporary tower at the former Concord landfill further west on Rt. 2,
but that was considered a stopgap until they could get the tower at Crosby's
Corner.

on June 2, 2005 is this info:
Dover residents hoping for improved cell phone service may be
in for an even longer wait, as the construction of a new cell phone tower
in town is still in its preliminary stages.
The tower, which has yet to be built, will be located next to an existing
cell phone tower behind the public works barn on Haven Street.
Cingular Wireless has proposed the tower's construction and estimates that
it will be about 135 feet, if completed.
The cell sites for Dracut MA actually got moved to Tewksbury,
as I had them wrongly identified (update made on 3/4/04 thanks to Peter M!).
The town of Dunstable MA is currently in hearing to allow Industrial
Communications & Electronics to erect a 120' monopole in town. View the
Dunstable News website at
this link and and use the search function to find 'Cell Tower Hearing'.
Currently, it is known that most wireless carriers, except Nextel
and AT&T (Cingular), have very poor coverage in Dunstable. AT&T (Cingular)
has a GSM cell site located in the center of town church steeple (across from
the Police Station).

stand a couple of miles (in a straight line) south of Fitchburg.

in a row but I have no clue who owns them. Seems kinda silly to me to have
them so close together.

picture, this is a one second window shot of what the tower looks

28 on the Harvard Boxborough line is this tower.
This is a poor picture taken while traveling
on Rt 495 south. The height suggests that it's two PCS carriers.
Located at the top of Sunrise
Ave (off of Prospect Street) is a large blue water tower. One of
my aunt's lives two houses away from this site.
Although I could not
take any photos due to not having a camera and the poor weather,
a quick field test showed that Sprint was definitely here (*22802 on
the VZW phone keypad had full strength inidication even when the phone
was smothered).
From looking at the other
antenna panels type installed (3 panel rake receiver / diversity type),
it led me to think it was Nextel.
Someday I'll get some photos and go to the base of the site to view
the shelters and power panels.

Located between Commercial Road
and Rt 2 (between Main St and mechanic St) in Leominster is this
radio tower which has seen the addition of a few wireless providers.
I remember this site from 1995 when it had no
carriers, then one came, then the other two over the
more recent years.
None of the carriers are confirmed, but one is suspected to be
Cingular.
The other two are not known, but due to the close proximity of the
Sunrise Road water tower, Nextel and Sprint are not located here.
From having Verizon Wireless service and doing a quick signal strength
tests near this tower, I would also vouch that Verizon Wireless
is also not here.

Cell Sites for Lexington MA
The following information ws posted November 2006 and was obtained from
the HowardForums T-Mobile forum:
Within the year 2006, the town of Lexington has approved three new cell
sites for T-Mobile. One is on Coolidge Ave (the steeple / attic of Pilgrim
Congregational Church), one in Marret Sq (at Waltham St & 2A), and one on
33 Hayden Ave (at Rt2 & Waltham St).
The above 3 sites in question will NOT
be built this year (2006). There is one more new site that will be up soon
(in December 2006). The site is off of RT2 near 225.
No other cell site information for Lexington is known at this time. If you
have any information, please send it along!

town lines across the street from the Agway is this monopole. This site is known as the Great Road (Spectacle Pond) site.
Although I list T-Mobile as being here, the 2nd BTS located

this site looks like an AT&T TDMA cabinet, not a T-Mobile cabinet.
as was previously thought.
T-Mobile's coverage map tool does show this immediate area as having
a cell tower, but it appears to be just south / south west of this
monopole. More will be revealed someday!

On Oak Hill, along Oak Hill Road in Littleton, which serves the Rt
2A, Rt 2 and Rt 495 corridor, is this tower.Foot path access only.
Route 495 at Rt 2 set back northwest of the interchange up on the hill
range is this tower which has been there for many years. It serves
Littleton and parts of Ayer MA. Field tests are inconclusive due to
it's proximity to another monopole a short distance away.
Verizon is not on this tower.

Although a horrible photo taken from about 1/4 mile away with my
LG VX8300 phone camera, this nice new monopole exists on the side
of this small hill along Willow Road. Carriers unknown, but Verzion
is not one of them.

Verizon service is very strong in downtown Littleton. It is suspected
that the water tower to the east of town along rt 119 has at least one
set of antenna panels on it and Verizon is one of them. If anyone has photos
or more info, please pass it along!
T-Mobile has 4 antenna structures in Littleton, the steeple
at 461 King Street, a monopole at the Spectacle Pond Road site, the tower
at 559A Newtown Hill and the co-location at 49 Porter Road on the Sprint
site. T-Mobile is not on the Cedar Hill site or
the Oak Hill site.

see this micro cell on top of this pole. It has three antennas.

At the Salter bus
company in Newbury on Scotland Rd we see towers for both Cingular

only site that I have found where cingular is still using 6
sectors instead of three. Drive by tests confirm it as does

club is a tower.

Cinguar is one of them, and I beleive Ver, or Nextel (I'm think'n
Verizon) is another one on that tower as well. Now, here's the kicker,
Remember when I had told you that I thought SPRINT on now on that
tower, and joined recently? You had douted it and and sugested that
it could be nextel or T-mobile. Well Mike, it's a good thing we
didn't bet any money on it because you'd be that much poorer.. It
is indeed SPRINT on that tower!

On top of Townsend Hill in Townsend
MA is this new monopole which was erected back in 2001.
The top most array (Cingular) only
has one antenna per face.
The 2nd tier has no antennas on it.
This tower is not far from the Brookline,
NH line. I confirmed with field tests that this tower serves all
of Southern most Brookline, with dead spots nearing the Milford
NH border on Rt 13. It also serves route 130 going into Hollis NH
well, except for when you get close to Hollis Ctr, there's a dead
spot for about 1/2 mile. It also serves Pepperell Road going into
Pepperell MA with allot of fringe spots, and of course it serves
Rt 13 in the northern most spots in Townsend MA.

A 3rd tier carrier has been added. It's not Sprint.
It could be T-Mobile, but that has not been confirmed.
3rd and 4th photos are from December 2006.
The 3rd photo shows the new third tier array. Each face has 2 antenna
panels.
The 4th photo shows a wide view of the site from the beginning
of the access road gate. You can see the Verizon fiber cable between
the telephone poles.

Wayland, MA Cell Sites:
Update April 24, 2007:
An anonymous communicator explains:
T-Mobile applied to put up 3 cell towers in Wayland MA, one at a Rod and
Gun club which is right next to a park kids play in - there are kids baseball
games and practices there every evening. The other two were going to be in
a nursing home and a church. The Zoning Board was treating all 3 towers as
one application. Last night, in front of lot of angry and very concerned residents
of Wayland, consultants paid by T-Mobile to discuss RF issues, and
lawyers from T-Mobile, the Zoning Board denied the application. They
denied it because they had continually asked T-Mobile (Omni Communications)
to provide funds to the Zoning Board so they could do due diligence on the
issue, but T-Mobile had not paid them and would not until they knew where the
money was going. The Zoning Board chastised T-Mobile for not complying, and
trying to influence where the Zoning Board spent the money. They said that
T-Mobile had no right to negotiate how the Zoning Board conducted their
investigation or which experts to hire. T-Mobile's lawyers spoke and at
one point said something disrespectful to the Zoning Board members. The Zoning
board voted 4-1 to deny the application. The one disssenting vote wanted to
deny it, but felt that T-Mobile should be given more time to pony up the cash,
citing fear of lawsuits. The others felt they already were given adequate time,
and T-Mobile wasn't complying so the fault was theirs not the towns.
This may get ugly, so keep your eyes posted,
and please let me know so we can update the website here.

Located between Rt 20 and
the old Ratheon facility, on top of the power line tower, is this large
canister containing at least one antenna panel. The base shelter area
for this site had an enclosed shelter building, and it is unknown who
the service provider(s) are.
Looking at the information below from Sprint and Cingular, there's
a good change both or one of them are here.
This canister is large enought o house
two carrier antenna panels.

The Board of Selectmen hopes mediation can settle the federal
court appeal of a defeated cell tower proposal in town.
AT&T Wireless, now owned by Cingular Wireless, filed suit in federal court
earlier this year after the Zoning Board of Appeals struck down its two proposed
cell tower sites on Route 20.
Though Wayland established a special zoning district for cell towers near the
Sudbury border in 1999, no cell tower has been built in town.
Whitney did not comment whether the town would consider allowing a cell tower
to be built outside that district.
AT&T Wireless had backed two Route 20 tower proposals with Sprint PCS at
abutting sites located at 135 and 137 Boston Post Road.
Both applications proposed a 120-foot tall pole to house the cell phone antennas
for AT&T, Sprint and a third wireless carrier (Nextel).
AT&T served as primary sponsor of the 137 Boston Post Road tower plan, while
Sprint served as co-sponsor. Those roles reversed for 135 Boston Post Road,
where Sprint served as primary sponsor. Though both sites were rejected, Sprint
has not joined AT&T in its suit against Wayland.
Both Sprint and AT&T were applying for variances through the federal Telecommunications
Act of 1996, which allows companies to override local zoning regulations if
they prove there is a significant gap in cell phone service.
Information gathered in Feb, 2004: Watertown,
MA is going through a battle right now with Sprint to prevent them from putting
up 11 Cellular Antenna's in a residential area. Watertown is only 4 square miles.
And, at present time has a total of 76 antenna's (not including the 11).
No photos, but the police station on Rt 20 has two fat monopoles.
It is presumed that all wireless carriers are present within both structures.

Holiday Inn at Exit 15 at Route 1 houses a few carriers along the top
roofline.
No fields tests conducted, hence, no
idea who the carriers are.

Located off Route 93 at exit 41 at
250 Ballardville Road is this monopole in the parking lot.
Unknown who the three carriers are
as I didn't get a chance to look at the BTS and buildings. One of
the carriers has a microwave MTSO backhaul dish as well (my educated
guess would be that it's Cingular Wireless doing that).
The bottom most array is definitely
a PCS carrier.

this site as an accident because I got lost hunting for a previous
site!
I found it at 375 Ballardville Street / River Street
on / near the Andover / Wilmington line.

of Gardner Mass on the Rindge NH line
with 4 towers, 1 off Rt140 Gardner Ma line (Bemis Road) covering Cingular
, Verizon,Sprint, 1 off of Foristall Road
(Behind Murdock Farm )covering Cingular , Sprint, 1 on Rt 202 covering
Cingular , Sprint and 1 tower on Happy Hollow Rd
covering Cingular.
Now with the Sprint merger with Nextel, Residents have
been getting full service as well. Spotty Vigin Mobile Service.
Verizon is looking to have full service in area by spring of 2007

Located just east of the U Mass Medical Center is
this old tower which now houses a single wireless provider antenna
array (about half way down). Most likely a PCS provider as it's
in a valley between two hilly regions of East Worcester and Shrewsbury
MA.
Sorry for that close up of the lamp post, but this
was the best shot I could get!

I'm lumping this site into the Worcester sites for
now, but most likely these towers are on the Worcester / Shrewsbury
line. They serve much of the eastern part of Worcester between Routes
290 and 9 as well as a good chunk of Shrewsbury. This picture was
taken from the parking lot of the U Mass Medical Center looking
east.
No idea what that third left most black structure
is. Perhaps a new monopole?
