Welcome to the Maine cell sites page. Although I do not have
any photos for any sites yet, I do have some good information on cell towers
for both Unicel and US Cellular, as well as regional news.
Cell site pictures from Maine are welcome, so please send some along!

Verizon Wireless has turned on a number of cell sites
along I-95 from the NH/ME line all the way up to Old Town, ME (North of Bangor).
Coming sites within the next year will be along Down Eastern ME (including
Rockport and Ellsworth).
Any service to the Northeast and East of Augusta will be PCS band only and the
coverage will be rather sparse with any distance from the major roads.

Unicel's network upgrade is said to be $20 million dollars and will pay for
34 new cell sites in central Maine, bringing the total (Unicel Sites) in the
state to 140.
The Maine Wireless Telecommunications Infrastructure Board (MWTIB) has been created to develop and lead the implementation of an expansion plan to provide universal wireless telecommunications coverage by 2008.
RANDOLPH, ME - Has approved a 150' tower to be erected by Verizon behind the
Town Office. Verizon offered the town $13,000 a year to lease space on Kinderhook
Street. That amount would increase after five years to $14,950.

Unicel was due to roll out GSM service in 3/05 and remove the AMPS 800 analog and keep the TDMA for another 2 years.
