Groton Cell Towers

Groton Fire Tower Cell Site One

Just North of Downtown Groton lies this monopole which was erected in 2002.
This is called the Gibbett Hill Cell Site.

The first picture shows both the monopole and if you look closely to the right at the tree line level, you can see the fire tower where the Verizon Wireless array is located. This is an operational fire tower. Bell Atlantic installed it's antennas back in the early 1990's. This picture was taken from Hollis Road, just north of Rt 119.

Also shown in this picture is an emergency communications tower (guy wire) for police and fire.

These photos taken on April 24, 2003.

The top picture shows the monopole (left), and the Cingular GSM cabinet (far right) as well as the T-Mobile cabinets (in between).

The next picture shows (from left most to right) the Sprint PCS BTS (background), outside the fence a large electrical transformer, inside the fence is the power panel meters for each of the providers, and a Verizon CPA (see photos below).

This third picture shows the power panel meters for each carrier on the monopole. Sprint is the upper left, VoiceStream(T-Mobile) is the bottom left, and the bottom right is Cingular There are two additional free power meters (in April 2003) above these four that are not in the picture (total of 3 more available).

UPDATE: August 2003, Nextel added. See photos below.

This last shot shows info for the Sprint PCS contact. It is located on the Sprint PCS BTS cabinet cover.

These remaining photos were taken on August 28, 2003.

The bottom most triangular antenna configuration is the new Nextel array. Added sometime in the Summer of 2003, this array is a typical installation for Nextel - using four antennas per face.

The next photo shows the layout of the BTS cabinets at the base and you can see the new brown Nextel building on the back right side.

The T-Mobile antennas (at the top), and the Sprint PCS antennas (the large panel-type white colored ones), followed by the Cingular GSM antennas, and lastly the Nextel antennas.

The last photo in this block is a close up of a tubular chunk of metal mounted to the side of the monopole just below the Nextel antennas. I have no idea what this thing is, but I thought a close up of it would be a good thing to document.

The sign displays emergency access information for the "Miller Estate Tower" site. That is the name of this cell site.

You can see the call sign information for this BTS. FCC Call Sign is KNLF216. The FCC call sign database shows this to be licensed to Cingular Wireless for PCS frequencies on the A-Band.

More BTS photos.

The 2nd photo down is the T-Mobile BTS. The third photo is unfocused shot of a label on the BTS.

The 3rd shot shows the Verizon Customer Premis Area Box (left), the power panel meters (middle) and the Sprint PCS BTS units (right).

The last photo is a close up of the Verizon Customer Premise Area equipment unit. This contains the data access points for the fiber bundle T1's that run to this site, providing data connectivity.

Townsend East Monopole with NEXTEL - Photo 1

I found this site purly by accient on 11/24/05 while "over the hills and through the woods to grandmohters house we go" - Christmas 2005.

This is a new installation and the only carrier so far is Nextel.

The site is located along Rt 119, very close to Powhatan Road and the Pepperell MA town line.

There is another Groton tower on Cow Pond Brook Road where Verizon is present. The tower is owned by Bay Communications LLC.
